Türk Henkel Brings Sustainability to İzmir with “Leave a Mark” Initiative

Türk Henkel’s “Leave a Mark” project is being implemented in İzmir this year. More than 200 children aged 8–12 will participate in a multi-layered sustainability program. The initiative focuses on rebuilding children’s connection with nature while fostering long-term environmental awareness.

Türk Henkel is reinforcing its sustainability-driven social responsibility strategy by launching its “Leave a Mark” project in İzmir. Implemented in collaboration with İhtiyaç Haritası, the program offers a holistic educational model that combines environmental awareness with practical, hands-on experiences.

Following last year’s implementation in Hatay for children affected by the earthquake, the project is now being carried out in forest fire-affected regions of İzmir, contributing to both environmental recovery and social resilience. The initiative gains further significance as it addresses the aftermath of fires that impacted approximately 30,000 hectares of land.

Multi-Layered Education: From Awareness to Action

The program delivers not only theoretical knowledge but also experiential learning through interactive workshops.

Key workshops include:

  • “Sustainability Heroes”: Recycling, waste management, and upcycling practices
  • “Love of Nature through Drama”: Storytelling and empathy-based engagement with nature
  • “Nature Guardians Design”: Creative poster and model-making activities

These modules are designed to help children internalize environmental responsibility and adopt sustainable lifestyle habits.

Field Engagement: Tree Planting and Ecological Contribution

A core component of the program, the “My Sapling, My Future” activity, enables children to actively contribute to nature by:

  • Planting their own saplings
  • Dispersing seed balls prepared during workshops

This hands-on approach supports the reforestation process while strengthening participants’ connection to the natural environment.

Targeting Over 200 Children

The project will be held at the İzmir Konak Municipality Toros Social Facility, with participation from children in fire-affected districts such as Karabağlar, Seferihisar, and Menderes.

The program, delivered by expert educators, aims to reach more than 200 children.

Expanding Social Impact: From Hatay to İzmir

In 2025, the project was implemented in Hatay, supporting approximately 250 children living in container settlements after the earthquake. This experience demonstrated the project’s scalability as a sustainable model for different disaster-affected regions.

Sustainability Strategy in Action

Türk Henkel integrates sustainability not only into its operations but also into its social impact initiatives.

Globally, Henkel reported approximately:

  • €20.5 billion in sales
  • €3.0 billion in operating profit (2025)

maintaining its leadership in industrial and consumer goods markets.

Operating in Türkiye since 1963, the company employs around 850 people across production, R&D, and sales functions.
