A hydroponic (soilless farming) system established in a middle school science laboratory in Istanbul is encouraging students not only to grow plants but also to develop innovative products. Students at FMV Florya Işık Primary School produced soap, cream and shampoo from lettuce, and most recently developed a natural liquid spice from basil.
