Eczacıbaşı Holding has announced that it has reached an agreement to transfer its tissue paper business Sanipak to Arch Peninsula Sdn Bhd (AP), a subsidiary of one of the world’s leading players in the sector. The transaction value has been disclosed as $600 million.
The deal will be finalized following approvals from the Turkish Competition Authority and other relevant regulatory bodies in applicable jurisdictions.
Strategic move for global expansion
Burak Sevilengül, CEO of Eczacıbaşı Group, stated that the transaction marks a significant milestone in Sanipak’s international growth journey:
“Since entering the personal hygiene market in 1969 under the İpek Kağıt brand, we have built some of Türkiye’s most recognized and trusted brands. We believe Sanipak is now entering a new phase with a strong international partner that can best unlock its global growth potential.”
Sevilengül also emphasized that the agreement will enable Sanipak brands to reach millions of new households worldwide.
From a local pioneer to a regional player
Eczacıbaşı launched Türkiye’s first tissue paper production in 1970 at its İpek Kağıt facility in Karamürsel. Over the years, brands such as Selpak have become synonymous with the category in the domestic market.
Today, Sanipak operates with 3 production facilities in Türkiye and 2 in Morocco, employing more than 2,000 people. The company remains one of the pioneers of branded tissue paper production in the region.
Potential shift in market dynamics
The acquisition is expected to reshape competitive dynamics in the tissue paper and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sectors. It also reflects a broader trend of Turkish-origin brands integrating into global value chains through strategic partnerships.
