Şişecam, a global player in the glass and chemicals industries, has completed and commissioned its new coated glass line investment in Northern Italy, which was announced in 2024 to meet rising demand for coated glass in the flat glass segment. The company brought the new line online at its San Giorgio di Nogaro facility with a €25 million investment.
With the new line, Şişecam will increase its coated glass production capacity in Italy from 6 million square meters to 12.5 million square meters. The investment is expected to strengthen Şişecam’s position in the European glass industry and increase the share of value-added glass products in its portfolio. The company aims to better meet demand for high-quality, high-performance glass in the European market.
Capacity in Europe doubles
Şişecam CEO Can Yücel said the investment will enhance both production capacity and product diversity:
“This coated glass line investment commissioned at our San Giorgio di Nogaro facility will strengthen our production capacity while also enriching our product portfolio. In this way, we will be able to respond more effectively to the growing demand for high-quality glass in Europe and deliver our value-added products to customers in Western Europe. With the coated architectural glass capacities we have increased in both Eastern and Western Europe, we will enhance our service quality and expand our range of high-quality product alternatives in the European market.”
Highlighting the rapid rise in global demand for coated glass products, particularly driven by the need for energy efficiency, Yücel added:

Coated glass investments come online
Şişecam previously announced on January 30, 2026 that it had completed an additional coated glass line investment with an annual capacity of 6 million square meters at its flat glass production facility in Bulgaria.
Following the investment in Italy, Şişecam plans to commission another coated glass line in Tarsus later this year with an annual capacity of 7 million square meters. With this addition, the number of Şişecam’s coated glass lines worldwide will increase to seven, and its total coated glass production capacity will reach 48.1 million square meters.
