Alun Reece Receives Composites UK Outstanding Contribution Award

Alun Reece, founder and CEO of industrial robotics specialist Loop Technology, will be presented with the Outstanding Contribution to the Composites Industry Award at the 2026 Composites UK Awards Dinner on November 4. The distinction recognizes his career-spanning dedication to industrial automation, university-industry collaboration, and advanced manufacturing platforms for structural composites.

Founded by Reece in 1998, Loop Technology has developed into a specialized supplier of complex automation platforms for advanced industries.

A central highlight of Reece’s career is the conceptualization and commercialization of FibreLINE, an ultra-high-rate automated manufacturing line engineered for large-format aerospace composite components, including wing structures and empennage assemblies:

  • Aerospace Deployment: Originally developed in Belfast for Bombardier in 2014, the automated platform progressed to the UK National Composites Centre (NCC) as an enabling technology within Airbus's Wing of Tomorrow initiative.

  • Next-Gen Scaling: FibreLINE was recently deployed at the University of Sheffield AMRC’s new COMPASS research facility under the Boeing-led IHSS programme.

Alongside AMRC's Rob Hewison, Reece played an instrumental role in shaping the COMPASS facility—securing capital backing, defining automation workflows, and commissioning the site ahead of its formal opening in July 2026.

Executive Commentary

Matt Hardman (Global Head of Sales, Loop Technology):

"Alun’s contribution goes far beyond the success of Loop Technology. He has spent his career pushing the boundaries of what is possible in automation and composite manufacturing, while bringing people and organisations together to make those ideas a reality. His vision, collaborative approach and determination have been instrumental in his success, but it is his integrity, professionalism and willingness to share his knowledge that make him such a valued figure within our community. I’m delighted to see his contribution recognised with this award."
