Tüpraş has expanded its environmental sustainability efforts under its “Energy for the Future” approach, donating a total of 100,000 saplings to be planted in İzmit, İzmir, Kırıkkale, and Batman. The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s General Directorate of Forestry (OGM), includes afforestation ceremonies held across the four provinces.
The company’s efforts go beyond establishing memorial forests, also contributing to the reforestation of areas affected by wildfires.
Contribution to Ecosystems and Carbon Sink Capacity
The afforestation activities play a critical role in supporting biodiversity, reducing soil erosion, strengthening carbon sink areas, and enhancing ecosystem resilience in the fight against climate change.
Through its partnership with the General Directorate of Forestry, Tüpraş aims to increase Türkiye’s forest assets and contribute to sustainable environmental management goals.

“A Responsibility to Nature and Future Generations”
Commenting on the initiative, Tüpraş CEO İbrahim Yelmenoğlu stated:
“We see afforestation efforts as an essential part of our responsibility to nature and future generations. Forests are not only vital for sustaining natural life but also form the foundation of a sustainable future for societies and economies.”
He further emphasized the importance of protecting natural assets in combating climate change, adding:
“By bringing 100,000 saplings together with the soil throughout the year in cooperation with the General Directorate of Forestry, we believe we have taken a meaningful step forward.”
Region-Specific Afforestation Model
The planting activities were carried out with the participation of refinery managers, sustainability teams, and volunteer employees in the provinces where Tüpraş operates. Representatives from the General Directorate of Forestry also provided briefings on afforestation processes and their ecological impact.
Sapling species were selected based on regional vegetation, ecosystem needs, and fire risk considerations. In Batman, for example, Pistacia terebinthus (terebinth) saplings, an important food source for local bird species and beneficial to both the ecosystem and local economy, were planted.
Tüpraş is adopting a holistic afforestation model that not only supports new green areas but also contributes to the rehabilitation of wildfire-affected regions in İzmir and İzmit.
