Global glass manufacturer Şişecam has commissioned its TR9 flat glass production line as part of a €315 million greenfield investment in Tarsus. With this new facility, the company’s total flat glass production capacity has exceeded 5 million tons.
The TR9 line, with an annual gross production capacity of 432,000 tons, represents Şişecam’s largest flat glass investment to date and ranks among the highest-capacity flat glass facilities worldwide.
Strengthening Global Competitiveness
Şişecam CEO Can Yücel stated that the investment aligns with the company’s sustainability-focused, value-added production strategy.
“With this investment, we have realized one of the world’s largest flat glass production facilities. The commissioning of this new line not only increases our production capacity but also significantly strengthens our competitive position in global markets,” said Yücel.
He added that the facility will supply clear flat glass to the domestic market and will also serve as a feeder for a coating line to be commissioned in Tarsus, enabling the production of value-added architectural glass products.
“This will enhance capacity utilization and margin resilience, while also improving working capital efficiency through supply chain and logistics optimization,” Yücel noted.
Integrated Raw Material Infrastructure
As part of the investment, a Sand Preparation Plant within the same facility has also been commissioned. The plant processes raw materials used in glass production and feeds them directly into the furnace.
In addition, the capacity expansion of the Limestone-Dolomite Preparation Plant located in Mersin Organized Industrial Zone has been completed. This ensures a stable and integrated supply of raw materials required for the TR9 line.
