Eker Turns Packaging into a Platform for Autism Awareness

Marking April 2 World Autism Awareness Day, Eker has redesigned its product packaging with awareness messages. The company’s OBİG employment model transforms inclusive business practices into a visible social impact initiative on store shelves. Consumers are invited to become part of this meaningful movement.

Eker Dairy Products has taken its social responsibility efforts a step further by introducing special packaging designs as part of Autism Awareness Month. The initiative highlights the importance of integrating individuals with autism into social and economic life, reaching a wider audience through everyday consumer products.

Since 2018, Eker has been implementing the “Individuals with Autism in the Workforce” (OBİG) model in collaboration with the Tohum Autism Foundation. Today, the company employs 14 individuals with autism, making inclusive employment a core element of its production culture.

Packaging as a Medium for Social Impact

As part of the initiative, special awareness messages are featured on the packaging of:

  • Ayran (1000 ml and 300 ml)
  • Strained Yogurt (900 g)
  • Bucket Yogurt (2000 g)
  • Efsane Yogurt (750 g)

The message “We work and produce together with our colleagues with autism” stands out on the redesigned packaging. Supporting statements emphasize collaboration, inclusivity, and a workplace culture where every individual’s contribution is valued.

OBİG Model Sets an Industry Benchmark

Eker’s OBİG model has evolved beyond a standard employment program into a social innovation model that inspires the industry. With an estimated 2 million individuals with autism in Türkiye and low workforce participation rates, such initiatives play a critical role.

The company also provides consultancy to expand this model. Over the past 2 years, collaborations with leading companies and a civil society organization in Azerbaijan have enabled 18 additional individuals with autism to enter professional life.

From Experience to Knowledge

Eker has transformed its field experience into an academic resource to ensure long-term impact. The publication titled “Individuals with Autism in the Workforce: Job Coaching Training Book” serves as a comprehensive guide for job coaches, HR professionals, and employers.

The book presents both theoretical and practical frameworks to support the integration of individuals with autism into the workforce.

A Strong Message for an Inclusive Future

Through its inclusive employment practices and awareness-driven communication strategy, Eker demonstrates that a workplace where diversity thrives is both possible and sustainable. Throughout April, consumers can support this social transformation by choosing Eker products featuring special packaging.
