Migros Becomes the Sole Turkish Food Retailer in TIME's "World's Most Sustainable Companies" List

Migros has been recognized as one of the five companies from Turkey to enter the "World's Most Sustainable Companies 2026" index, curated by TIME Magazine and Statista. Ranking among only five food retailers selected globally, the corporation became the exclusive representative of its domestic sector on the list.

At a time when alignment with international sustainability taxonomies and carbon-neutral pathways increasingly impacts operational performance across the retail industry, global ESG rankings continue to unfold. TIME Magazine, in partnership with statistics platform Statista, evaluated more than 5,000 global entities across 40 countries using a multi-tiered data methodology to list the top 750 sustainable enterprises for 2026. Gauged through 20 separate data vectors and compliance with reporting standards, Migros secured a spot among the only five food retailers shortlisted globally.

The retail group clinched its place on the index by building its operational infrastructure around its "Good Future Plan," which covers greenhouse gas mitigation, food waste minimization, circular plastic loops, and certified regenerative agricultural sourcing. The firm's ESG performance metrics are verified by international sustainable finance benchmarks, including its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approval, its position on the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) Global A-List, and its inclusion in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook.

Science-Based Frameworks and Global Sourcing Standards

Reviewing the company's ESG performance criteria, decarbonization projections, and its 2030–2050 net-zero roadmap, Migros Group CEO Özgür Tort shared the following statements:

We execute our sustainability goals through scalable projects that deliver measurable impacts. We drive transformations across fields extending from climate crisis mitigation and food waste prevention to sustainable agricultural operations and gender equality. Ranking among only five companies globally within the food retail segment on the 'World's Most Sustainable Companies' list compiled by Statista and TIME Magazine—and solely representing Turkey in this line—serves as a strong driver for our organization. Our SBTi approval, our status among CDP 'Global A Leaders,' our position in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook, and our uninterrupted presence in the BIST Sustainability 25 Index stand as the most robust indicators of our resolute approach that centers sustainability at the core of our business. We move firmly toward our 2030 and 2050 targets. The tangible impact we generate cements our standing among global sustainability leaders.
