Developed over five years, the process integrates LBDSās yeast and fermentation capabilities with Braskemās proprietary separation technology. Designed as an add-on unit for existing ethanol facilities, it enables ethanol producers to diversify revenue streams through high-value biochemicals.
Braskem will spearhead commercialization and global market development, targeting key industrial hubs in the US and Europe.
Serving an 8M-Tonne Global Market
With annual global acetone demand surpassing 8 million tonnes, the drop-in bio-acetone offers a direct, low-carbon alternative for conventional fossil-based solvents.
Target end-markets include cosmetics and personal care (solvents and makeup removers), paints and coatings, acrylics, and adhesives.
Cirilo Vieira, Director of Business Development for Renewable Energy and Biochemicals at Braskem:
Combining Braskem's biochemical capabilities with LBDS's fermentation expertise marks a significant milestone toward decarbonizing the petrochemical value chain.
