LANXESS Signs Green Power Deal With VERBUND

Specialty Chemicals Producer LANXESS Has Signed A Three-Year Green Electricity Agreement With Austrian Energy Group VERBUND. The Company Aims To Cut Its Carbon Footprint By Around 60,000 Tonnes And Take Another Major Step Toward Its 2040 Climate Neutrality Target Through Hydropower-Based Renewable Energy.

German Specialty Chemicals Company LANXESS Is Accelerating Its Shift Toward Renewable Energy As Part Of Its Broader Decarbonization Strategy. Under A New Agreement With Austrian Utility VERBUND, LANXESS Will Source Hydropower-Generated Green Electricity For Its German Production Sites Between 2026 And 2028.

The Contract Covers A Total Supply Of 200,000 MWh Of Electricity, Produced At VERBUND’s Hydropower Plants On The River Inn In Bavaria. According To The Company, The Switch To Renewable Electricity Will Reduce Emissions By Roughly 60,000 Tonnes Of CO₂ Compared With Germany’s Current Electricity Mix.

Five German Sites Included

The Green Electricity Will Be Used At LANXESS Facilities In Bergkamen, Bitterfeld, Brunsbüttel, Mannheim, And Wietmarschen. The Company Expects The Move To Lower Not Only Its Operational Emissions But Also The Environmental Footprint Of Products Manufactured At These Sites.

Supporting The 2040 Climate Neutrality Goal

LANXESS Has Set A Target Of Becoming Climate-Neutral In Production By 2040, With Renewable Electricity And Energy Efficiency Forming Key Pillars Of Its Sustainability Roadmap. The VERBUND Agreement Represents A Concrete Contribution Toward Meeting These Long-Term Ambitions.
