Global glass and chemicals producer Şişecam has taken another major step to boost its manufacturing footprint in Europe. The company announced that it has launched a second coated glass line at its flat glass production site in Bulgaria, in addition to its existing coated line.
The new facility, developed with a total investment of €20 million, will add 6 million square meters of annual production capacity and significantly enhance Şişecam’s competitiveness in the European architectural glass market.
The line will enable the production of temperable, high-performance and energy-efficient coated glass products, while also providing greater product flexibility, operational efficiency and expanded opportunities for R&D activities.
Expanding Value-Added Product Supply Across Europe
With the additional capacity, Şişecam aims to deliver higher volumes of advanced solutions to the European market, including:

Heatable athermic glass solutions designed for the automotive industry
The company views the investment as a strategic response to rising demand for sustainable, high-performance glass products, while further strengthening the share of international sales in its overall revenue.
CEO Can Yücel “We Will Increase The Share Of Value-Added Products”
Şişecam CEO Can Yücel commented on the launch of the new line with the following statement:
“We have commissioned our new coated glass line in Bulgaria with an annual capacity of 6 million square meters. This investment will strengthen our competitive advantage through improved operational efficiency and an expanded product portfolio, while increasing the share of value-added products and enabling us to deliver greater value to our customers.”
Yücel also highlighted Şişecam’s growth strategy, centered on efficiency, cost discipline, cash generation and balance-sheet resilience. He noted that two additional coated glass investments are already underway:
“As previously announced, we have two more ongoing investments in coated glass. Once the 7 million square meter line in our Tarsus flat glass plant and the 6.5 million square meter line in our Northern Italy facility come online, the number of Şişecam’s coated glass lines worldwide will reach seven, and our total coated glass capacity will rise to 48.1 million square meters.”
Şişecam added that the new Bulgarian line, supported by advanced technology and a high level of automation, is expected to contribute positively to the company’s operational profitability.
