BASF and Bota Biosciences Launch SkinNexus™ Collag3n

Melding synthetic biology with industrial scalability, BASF and Bota Biosciences have commercially launched SkinNexus™ Collag3n. Debuted at in-cosmetics Global, the 100% human-identical, yeast-fermented recombinant Collagen III fragment targets the high-performance anti-aging cosmetics sector, demonstrating superior efficacy in cellular homeostasis and wrinkle reduction at low formulation use levels.

The global cosmetic ingredients market is adapting to industrial platforms driven by synthetic biology and machine learning. BASF and Bota Biosciences have announced the commercial rollout of SkinNexus™ Collag3n, a bio-identical vegan collagen active.

The product development pipeline combined Bota's Physical AI-driven biofoundry capabilities with BASF's cosmetic formulation expertise, allowing the joint engineering teams to screen over 2,000 collagen fragments while simultaneously validating industrial biomanufacturing feasibility.

Yeast Fermentation Architecture and Verified Dermal Homeostasis

Engineered as a sustainable alternative to legacy animal-derived collagen, SkinNexus™ Collag3n introduces several precise biochemical and clinical parameters to personal care formulations:

  • 100% Sequence Homology: Produced via continuous yeast fermentation, the recombinant protein fragment exhibits a 100% human-identical sequence for Tip III collagen targets.

  • Full-Spectrum Collagen Synthesis: In vitro testing within 3D dermis tissue models demonstrated significant stimulation of natural structural proteins, registering increases of +48% in Collagen I, +82% in Collagen III, and +71% in Collagen V.

  • Low-Dosage Clinical Efficacy: In vivo clinical trials conducted on female cohorts aged 53–70 demonstrated measurable improvements in skin sagging and wrinkle depth over a four-week application cycle. The bio-active outperformed a standard commercial collagen benchmark applied at ten times the concentration, enabling anti-aging efficacy at lower formulation dosages.
