Koruma Companies Group and the Aracı Family have expanded their long-standing contributions to healthcare by donating a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and a fully equipped ambulance to Kocaeli University Hospital. The facility was officially inaugurated on April 7 – World Health Day, with the participation of Ersin Tatar, the 5th President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
The opening ceremony brought together key public officials, including Kocaeli Governor İlhami Aktaş, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın, Kocaeli University Rector Prof. Dr. Nuh Zafer Cantürk, and Chief Physician Prof. Dr. M. Görkem Aksu, along with members of the Aracı Family.
A Strategic Contribution to Healthcare Capacity
The newly established pediatric intensive care unit, equipped with advanced medical technologies and built to high clinical standards, is positioned among Türkiye’s leading centers. The facility addresses a long-standing critical need in the region, enabling pediatric patients to receive comprehensive treatment locally without the need to travel to other cities.
The donated ambulance is expected to enhance emergency response efficiency and improve access to timely healthcare services.
A Continuum of Healthcare Investments
The Aracı Family’s healthcare contributions began with the Semahat Aracı Oncology and Palliative Care Center, which features 84 rooms and a capacity of 135 beds, serving patients with cancer, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and dementia.
Additional contributions have included a modern operating theater, an advanced psychiatric treatment unit, a 3D TEE laboratory, private patient rooms, and specialized diagnostic equipment—significantly strengthening the hospital’s infrastructure.

“Touching a Child’s Life Means Touching the Future”
Vefa İbrahim Aracı, Chairman of the Board of Koruma Companies Group, emphasized the social impact of the investment:
“Today, we are not only inaugurating a healthcare investment but also fulfilling our responsibility to the city we belong to. Healthy generations are the foundation of a strong society. Touching a child’s life means touching the future.”
Aracı also noted that the family remains committed to continuing investments in both healthcare and education.
“A New Chance for Every Child”
Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Babaoğlu, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, highlighted the life-saving importance of the initiative:
“This is not just a donation—it is a direct contribution to life. For every child treated in this unit, a new chance is created.”
Chief Physician Prof. Dr. M. Görkem Aksu added:
“With this facility, we will be able to provide faster, safer, and more effective treatment for pediatric patients. This investment will significantly enhance the quality of healthcare services in Kocaeli.”
Public–Private Collaboration at the Core
Speaking at the ceremony, Ersin Tatar emphasized that such contributions shape not only the present but also the future:
“Every investment made for children is an investment in the future of a nation.”
Local authorities also highlighted the importance of public–private partnerships in advancing regional development and improving access to healthcare services.
