Evonik Industries AG continues to advance its growth plans in high-performance polybutadienes with new investments aimed at reinforcing its global HTPB production network. The company is expanding capacity at its existing site in Germany and, in parallel, preparing for a new production facility in Asia.
Construction Underway in Germany, Start-Up Set for 2027
Evonik has moved into the construction phase of a major capacity expansion at its current German production site. The increased HTPB output is scheduled to come on stream in the second quarter of 2027, significantly strengthening the company’s supply capabilities in Europe.
New Asian Facility Moves into Engineering Phase
At the same time, Evonik has launched the engineering phase for a new HTPB production facility in the Asian region. The location was selected based on its potential to create synergies with Evonik’s existing assets. Commenting on the decision, Dr. Jürgen Herwig, Head of Evonik’s Polybutadienes Business, said:
“The location for this new plant has been selected based on the strategic opportunity to leverage synergies with Evonik’s existing assets.”
“Greater Reliability and Proximity of Supply”
Dr. Anna Maria Ickert, Head of Evonik Coating & Adhesive Resins, emphasized the strategic intent behind the investments, stating:
“These investments demonstrate the company’s ongoing commitment to meeting the growing global demand by supporting our customers with enhanced reliability and proximity of supply.”
Over the past two years, Evonik has steadily expanded its HTPB production footprint. In 2024, the company increased capacity at its Marl site in Germany, followed by the establishment of a POLYVEST® ST-E 60 polybutadiene production facility in Shanghai, China, in 2025. The latest expansion plans further underline Evonik’s focus on innovation, global growth, and the reliable supply of high-performance materials to customers worldwide.
