Sustainable active ingredient Proteoglycan IPC recognised with an award
Japan-based Ichimaru Pharcos Co., Ltd. received a major distinction at the BSB Innovation Award 2025 in the environment category, raw materials and active ingredients segment, thanks to its natural cosmetic active Proteoglycan IPC. The ingredient drew attention for its potential benefits related to skin repair, collagen density, and long-term skin health.
The BSB Innovation Award, presented by Germany-based BSB, is regarded as a prestigious industry recognition aimed at showcasing scientific and technical innovations in the cosmetics and personal care sector on a global scale. The evaluation process is described as being conducted according to independent, impartial and objective criteria.
High-performance ingredient derived from waste streams
Proteoglycan IPC stands out as an active ingredient derived from high-purity proteoglycans, largely isolated from salmon nasal cartilage. By utilising materials that are often treated as waste in seafood processing, the ingredient represents an environmentally conscious production approach. This combination of performance and sustainable sourcing was cited among the reasons it was deemed worthy of the award.
Following the announcement, Ichimaru Pharcos’ development team noted that the recognition further reinforces the company’s commitment to developing innovative, environmentally focused natural cosmetic ingredients. The company also signalled its intention to bring similar innovations to the global market in the future.
