A critical milestone has been reached in Kazakhstan’s petrochemical growth strategy. Air Liquide, through its subsidiary Air Liquide Karabatan Technical Gases LLC (ALKTG), has signed a long-term nitrogen and compressed dry air supply agreement with chemical company Silleno LLP.
Under this new contract, ALKTG will build, own, and operate two high-purity, energy-efficient nitrogen production units. This major infrastructure development represents an investment of €70 million. Commissioning of the units and initial gas deliveries are scheduled to align with the Silleno plant's production timeline, targeting completion by the end of 2028.
Transforming the Karabatan Basin into a Global Petrochemical Hub
The new industrial assets will be located within the National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark (NIPT) special economic zone in the Atyrau region. The infrastructure will be built adjacent to ALKTG’s existing air separation unit (ASU), which currently supplies nitrogen to Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries (KPI).
Building upon ALKTG's initial investments in the Karabatan basin since 2019, this expansion is designed to optimize operational synergies and further solidify the joint venture's industrial footprint in the region.
A Decade of Strategic Alliance in Kazakhstan
Air Liquide has maintained an active operational presence in Kazakhstan since 2016. ALKTG operates as a subsidiary of Air Liquide Munai Technical Gases (ALMTG), a joint venture that highlights strong regional integration:
75%: Air Liquide
25%: KazMunayGaz NC (Kazakhstan's National Oil and Gas Company)
