Indonesia Breaks Ground on Coal-to-Methanol Project

A ground-breaking ceremony was held on August 31 for Indonesia’s national strategic coal gasification-to-methanol project in East Kutai, East Kalimantan Province. Developed by PT Bumi Etam Chemical (BEC) at the Batuta Chemical Industrial Park, the industrial complex is designed to produce approximately 1.3 million metric tonnes of methanol annually.

Nippon Paint Clinches €47M European Buyback

Tokyo-listed Nippon Paint Holdings has approved the reacquisition of its European automotive coatings business from its controlling shareholder, Wuthelam Group, for approximately €47 million (around ¥8.5 billion). The share purchase agreement has been signed, with final closing scheduled for October 2026.

China Titanium Approves RMB 11B Expansion

China Titanium Energy Chemical has greenlit two major industrial projects with a total initial investment of RMB 11 billion ($1.5B) across Gansu and Guizhou provinces. Designed to scale battery feedstock supply chains, the plans encompass a 600,000-tonne iron phosphate precursor base alongside a 400,000-tonne titanium dioxide and 1.4-million-tonne ferrous sulfate complex.

Sinopec Commissions World’s Largest High-End Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) Base in Chongqing

Sinopec subsidiary Chongqing Chuanwei Chemical has officially brought online a 50,000-tonne annual capacity specialty polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) production unit. The expansion brings the integrated complex’s total annual output capacity to 210,000 tonnes, establishing it as the world's largest single-plant manufacturing base for high-end PVA—often termed the "universal auxiliary material" of fine chemicals.
