# Sunar NP’s Biodegradable Products Selected for COP31

> Sunar NP, Turkey's pioneer bioplastics manufacturer and the sole producer operating with direct agricultural raw material integration, has been named an In-Kind Service Provider for the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) in Antalya, Turkey. Engineered from corn starch to fully biodegrade within 180 days without leaving microplastic residues, the company’s bio-based bags and waste management solutions will be deployed across the operational footprint of the global climate summit.

## Content

Hosted under Turkey's strategic framework of delivering verifiable and measurable environmental impact, COP31 will integrate Sunar NP’s industrial compostable solutions into its circular onsite waste handling and catering logistics.

Operating within Sunar Yatırım, the enterprise leveraged six years of dedicated R&D supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) to inaugurate industrial-scale compounding in 2020. Certified in full compliance with the international **EN 13432** standard, the thermoplastic starch (TPS) formulations degrade through organic composting within 180 days, eliminating hazardous persistent microplastics characteristic of conventional petrochemical polymers.

### Closed-Loop Agricultural Integration and Technical Capabilities

Key technological and environmental metrics of Sunar NP’s biopolymer architecture include:

- **Complete Biodegradation Without Microplastics:** Validated to decompose biologically under certified composting conditions within 180 days, breaking down entirely into organic matter and water.
- **Diversified Industrial Applications:** Providing scalable polymer grades for biodegradable carrier bags, municipal waste liners, barrier food packaging, single-use cutlery and straws, agricultural mulch films, and additive manufacturing (3D printing) filaments.
- **Farm-to-Polymer Synthesis:** Utilizing localized agro-industrial feedstock processing to maintain complete supply traceabilities and cost efficiencies from raw field corn to specialized biopolymer compounding.

### Executive Commentary from Mustafa Nuri Çomu

**Mustafa Nuri Çomu, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Sunar Yatırım**, remarked:
